British Foreign Secretary David Cameron vowed to hold Israel accountable for the bombing of World Central Kitchen workers, stressing that it must ensure that this does not happen again.
In an interview with the British newspaper, The Daily Mail, Cameron declined to discuss the increasing calls for a halt in arms sales to Israel following these atrocities.
The British Foreign Secretary also refuted claims that the UK government is downplaying the incident to avoid angering Israel.
Cameron described the drone strike conducted by Israel this week on the World Central Kitchen convoy as “horrific” and paid tribute to the seven aid workers killed.
The global anger towards the Israeli military has intensified this week after the aid workers were hit by a missile while attempting to deliver food to Palestinians in a clearly marked vehicle.
U.S. President Joe Biden, in a tense call on Thursday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, demanded an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, stating that a halt is now “necessary” and that U.S. support is conditioned on Israel taking new steps to protect aid workers and civilians.
Biden’s statements go beyond the stance of the British government, which has sought an “immediate halt” to the fighting to create conditions for a “sustainable ceasefire.”
