The UAE bolstered its aid to Chad, affirming its commitment to strengthening the bonds and cooperation based on mutual respect between the two nations.
In this regard, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) distributed aid packages to approximately 1700 Chadian families registered in the city of Amdjarass.
The aid packages will be distributed in stages, with daily deliveries set to commence from Tuesday evening, targeting roughly 400 Chadian families.
On Monday, an Emirati aid plane carrying food packages arrived in Amdjarass, dispatched by the UAE Red Crescent, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charity and Humanitarian Works, and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works.
Ahmed Obaid Al Dhaheri, head of the ERC delegation in Chad, asserted that the team currently stationed in Amdjarass will be extending this aid to Sudanese refugees and the local community in Chad, in alignment with the UAE’s directive to extend a helping hand to those in need.
He added that the charity teams in Amdjarass have been assessing the food and humanitarian needs of the Sudanese refugees to alleviate their sufferings caused by the current situation in their country.
Since its inauguration on July 9th, the hospital has catered to 1,744 medical cases, including 173 orthopedic cases, 225 surgical cases, and 1346 internal medicine cases, along with 11 surgeries.
The establishment of the hospital is part of the UAE’s humanitarian, relief, and medical support for the Sudanese affected by the dire humanitarian conditions caused by the conflict in their country since April.
It also underscores the UAE’s commitment to aid the Republic of Chad to alleviate the humanitarian impacts caused by the influx of Sudanese refugees due to the situation in Sudan.
The UAE has actively contributed to supporting the Group of Five for the Sahel (G5 Sahel) in sub-Saharan Africa, which includes Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, and Niger.
From 2018 to 2023, UAE’s foreign aid to G5 Sahel reached $750 million, accounting for 3% of the total foreign aid payments during this period.
Around 75% of the UAE’s foreign aid was allocated to development aid, while charity and humanitarian aid constituted 16% and 9%, respectively.
