In separate statements, both the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan have commended the United Nations Human Rights Council’s (UNHRC) recent adoption of a draft resolution entitled “Combating Religious Hatred”, underlining the importance of endorsing respect for all faiths.
The UAE Foreign Ministry released a statement applauding the UNHRC’s move to confront religious hatred that incites discrimination, enmity, or violence. The country stressed the need to cultivate a culture of religious respect, tolerance, and peaceful cohabitation – principles they believe are crucial pathways to progress, prosperity, and mutual coexistence.
It also praised this development as harmonizing with the UN Security Council’s unanimous agreement on a resolution regarding “Tolerance, Peace, and International Security”.
This resolution, presented by the UAE and the United Kingdom, was adopted during the UAE’s recent term as rotating Council president last June. The initiative reinforces international efforts by endorsing a comprehensive approach that bolsters tolerance and peaceful cohabitation.
The UAE reiterated its commitment to enhancing mutual understanding, fostering communication bridges and dialogue, all of which contribute to stability and prosperity both regionally and globally.
The country emphasized its ongoing mission to embody universal brotherhood, respect religious freedom, and continue its efforts supporting tolerance, and moderation while resisting activities that propagate hate speech and extremism.
On the other hand, Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the resolution and accentuated the need to confront all forms of hate actions, particularly the recurrent assaults on the Holy Quran.
The ministry underlined that challenging the culture of hatred, discrimination, and intolerance towards others is a collective responsibility and a requisite for cultivating a culture of peace and shared human values.
