As global leaders drive towards more strategic cooperation, the UAE and India have made significant strides. At the heart of these advances is the fruitful discussion between the UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, held this Saturday during Modi’s official visit to the UAE.
Deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations took center stage during this high-level meeting. A notable outcome of the discussions was the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a bilateral trade agreement, leveraging local currencies – the Dirham and the Rupee. As reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), this landmark agreement is set to supercharge trade activities between the two nations.
Strengthening technological bonds also featured prominently during the visit. The leaders exchanged MoUs on fast payment systems, card systems, and messaging systems, marking a robust commitment to technological advancement. Furthering the pursuit of knowledge, the establishment of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi-Abu Dhabi was also announced, signaling an enduring academic and scientific collaboration.
Recognizing India’s significant global influence, President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan voiced his anticipation for India’s active participation in COP28 and lauded the constructive cooperation between the two countries in climate action.
In response, Prime Minister Modi underscored his dedication to continue working closely with President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He expressed his intent to enhance UAE-India relations, particularly in developmental areas that align with the progressive goals of both nations.
Prime Minister Modi was received with a ceremonious 21-gun salute upon his arrival at the presidential palace in Abu Dhabi. The Indian delegation accompanying him included several senior government officials and the Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Suresh Singh.
