The Turkish Ministry of Defense declared on Sunday that 19 armed individuals were neutralized in ongoing air raids in Northern Iraq over the past two days.
In a statement, the Defense Ministry specified that 10 militants from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) were targeted in airstrikes in the Claw-Lock operation zone in Northern Iraq.
This announcement follows the Turkish military’s statement on Saturday, which reported the neutralization of 9 Kurdish militants in the Jarrah region of Northern Iraq.
The air operations were initiated by Turkey against PKK and People’s Protection Units (YPG) targets in Northern Syria and Iraq.
This military action was a response to an attack by Kurdish militants on a Turkish military base on January 12, which resulted in the death of over 12 Turkish soldiers. This attack represents the third of its kind in less than a month in Northern Iraq.
Last Thursday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported an increase in the total number of militants neutralized since the beginning of the previous year, reaching a total of 2,396.
Both the Iraqi and Syrian governments have objected to the presence of Turkish forces on their territories. They have demanded that Ankara withdraw its troops and end operations that cause harm to civilians and infrastructure in both countries.
The ongoing conflict and these recent developments continue to draw international attention to the region’s complex geopolitical dynamics.
