Tunisian President Kais Saied reaffirmed his country’s unwavering commitment to support the Palestinian people with all available resources.
During a meeting held on Monday to discuss ways to support the Palestinian people, President Saied emphasized that Tunisia’s support for Palestine would extend beyond issuing statements. He stated, “We will stand by the Palestinians with everything we have; we prioritize their cause as if it were our own.”
The meeting was attended by key figures, including Prime Minister Ahmed Hashani, Minister of National Defense Emad Mmeish, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar, Minister of Social Affairs Malik Zahawi, Minister of Health Ali Marrabi, Presidential Advisor Mustafa Al-Farjani, and Abdellatif Shabou, President of the Tunisian Red Crescent.
President Saied expressed his disapproval of using the term “shelling” in reference to Israeli attacks, and he advocated for the term “barrage” when discussing Palestinian resistance. He stated, “Attack should be met with attack, and assault with assault,” underscoring that the issue is not solely about Gaza but about Palestine as a whole.
Furthermore, the Tunisian President stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian people in their current struggle for liberation and their right to reclaim all of Palestine. He highlighted the significance of providing healthcare support to the Palestinian population, especially in the current circumstances.
President Saied emphasized the need for cooperation between the Ministry of Social Affairs within the framework of the Social Solidarity Union to support the Palestinian people with the resources available to Tunisia. He recognized the obligation to stand with the Palestinian people in their current battle.
The meeting also addressed ways to provide medicines, surgical equipment, blood donations, and field generators, particularly in the aftermath of extensive power outages in a significant part of Gaza. Additionally, discussions included the possibility of transferring injured Palestinians to Tunisia and coordinating efforts between the Tunisian Red Crescent and the Palestinian Red Crescent to determine the specific needs of the Palestinian people.
The Tunisian President’s strong declaration of support for the Palestinian people comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region. The Israel-Palestine conflict has seen a recent escalation in violence, with clashes in East Jerusalem, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, and Palestinian rocket attacks. The situation has led to numerous casualties and widespread destruction, prompting international concern.
