An incident occurred on the Egyptian border on Saturday morning, resulting in the death of three Israeli soldiers.

The bodies of a male and a female soldier were discovered at approximately 8:30 am local time, while the third soldier, a male, was killed during a firefight that ensued during the subsequent manhunt.

The incident took place within Israeli territory and is believed to have occurred at close range. The deceased gunman has been identified as an Egyptian policeman.

Earlier that same morning, at around 2:30 am, Israeli security forces successfully disrupted a major cross-border drug smuggling operation near Nitzana, located in the same area.

The operation resulted in the seizure of contraband with an estimated value of $400,000. It remains unclear whether these two events are connected, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the details.
Israeli military officers have emphasized that they are maintaining “full coordination” with Egyptian authorities in the aftermath of the border incident.

They have reported that the coordination between the two parties is ongoing and characterized as positive. At this time, there is no indication or suggestion that the Egyptian military was involved in the incident.
