Meta recently launched Threads, its novel text-based social media platform, and sparked global interest as people were eager to experience the new application.

Threads, which permits users to log in using their Instagram accounts, was anticipated to offer a fresh approach to sharing ideas and experiences.

The app’s launch coincided with diminishing user interest in Twitter due to restrictive measures, including user rate limits and other modifications. This led many to see Threads as a potential alternative to Twitter, now rebranded as X.

However, Instagram chief, Adam Mosseri, clarified in a previous interview that Meta did not aim to replace Twitter with Threads.

He stated that Threads was more focused on fostering a ‘public square’ for Instagram communities that have not fully embraced Twitter.

In a recent conversation with the Washington Post, Mosseri confirmed another anticipated feature for Threads – the addition of Direct Message (DM) support, allowing users to communicate privately.

Given that private messaging is a key feature of any social media platform, the absence of a DM function on Threads initially came as a surprise. However, Mosseri reassured that this feature would be integrated soon.

While discussing Threads’ development priorities with the Washington Post, Mosseri highlighted the team’s primary focus areas, one of which includes enabling user messaging within the app.
