Leaders of Sudan’s neighboring countries have expressed their solidarity with the dire humanitarian situation in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of the Egyptian initiative to halt the war and calm the internal conflict in Khartoum.
The conference of Sudan’s neighboring countries was launched in Cairo, with the presence of several heads of state and representatives of neighboring nations.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in his opening speech, stressed the necessity of stopping the bloodshed in Sudan and finding solutions to end the crisis.
President el-Sisi also called on the international community to fulfill its commitments and support the neighboring countries that are hosting hundreds of thousands of displaced people fleeing the conflict in Sudan.
In this regard, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki stated that the Egyptian initiative to resolve the Sudanese crisis is a golden opportunity to achieve stability.
He pointed out that the war in Sudan is unjustifiable, and it is crucial to establish fundamental principles based on respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and stability, creating a conducive environment for the Sudanese people to transition to safety.
During the summit of the neighboring countries, Afwerki added, “Our role should be to assist Sudan in overcoming its ordeal, allowing the neighboring countries to enjoy stability, which requires preventing external interventions under any pretext.”
The Eritrea president emphasized the necessity of reaching an initiative or plan to achieve peace, emphasizing that this summit is an opportunity to push efforts for a political solution to the Sudanese crisis.
Afwerki believes that the initiative adopted by Egypt should mark the beginning of a significant journey to bring the Sudanese people to safety by implementing a clear mechanism with practical accountability.
He also highlighted that Sudan’s neighboring countries are capable of supporting the initiative, considering their ability to solve problems in Africa.
