Artillery clashes continued on Tuesday morning between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum. Army drones targeted several RSF sites in the Sports City area, Al-Sahafa neighborhood, and central Khartoum.
Eyewitnesses reported that the exchange of shelling caused plumes of smoke to rise in the Kafouri area of Khartoum North and in Al-Mujahideen neighborhood in southern Khartoum. The use of drones by both parties in the Sudanese conflict has increased in recent months.
Military sources reported that a drone targeted an army camp in Rabak, the capital of White Nile State in the south, but ground defenses prevented it from reaching the camp.
Similarly, the Security Committee of River Nile State in northern Sudan stated on Tuesday that the army’s advanced defenses managed to shoot down two suicide drones that attacked the local government building in Damer, the state’s capital.
One drone fell on the local administration building in Damer, while the other collided with the outer wall, causing no injuries or casualties.
The attack resulted in limited fires, which were promptly extinguished by the civil defense police in Damer, according to the statement.
Military sources confirmed on Monday that army air defenses shot down three “suicide” drones belonging to the RSF, which were targeting the Kenana Air Base in White Nile State.
In El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur in western Sudan, Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that the RSF shelled the western neighborhoods of the city and the vicinity of the Sixth Infantry Division headquarters with heavy artillery. The army retaliated with artillery shelling on RSF positions in the eastern part of the city.
Both parties in the Sudanese conflict have employed drones during their confrontations. At the beginning of the war, the army relied on outdated drones, which did not achieve significant results against the RSF, according to a Reuters report.
Combat drones entered the battlefield early in the conflict and began appearing over Khartoum. In April, our correspondent noted that drone warfare intensified between the army and RSF in several areas of Khartoum. He mentioned that 70% of the residents in Al-Jili, north of Khartoum, had fled due to drone strikes targeting residential areas.
The RSF also relies on this type of weapon. On July 10, the air defenses of the Third Infantry Division in Shendi, River Nile State, shot down three RSF attack drones without causing any casualties.
