The Somali Ambassador to Cairo, Ali Abdi Awari, has praised Egypt for sending a medical convoy to Mogadishu, shortly after delivering military aid to Somalia.
The ambassador emphasized that Egypt’s continuous support to Somalia in various sectors, including healthcare, demonstrates the strong and unwavering ties between the two nations.
Ambassador Awari commended the efficiency of the Egyptian medical team, which includes specialists in rare fields.
He highlighted the importance of these medical convoys in strengthening Somalia’s healthcare system and expressed hope for future initiatives to train Somali medical personnel, enhancing their capabilities to serve the Somali people more effectively.
The ambassador also acknowledged the exceptional relations between Egypt and Somalia, particularly during the current period.
He lauded Egypt’s unprecedented support under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as Somalia continues to face significant challenges.
The cooperation between the two countries extends beyond immediate aid. Plans were discussed to train Somali medical professionals in Egypt’s hospitals, with a proposal to establish a specialized Egyptian medical center in Somalia.
Additionally, Egypt intends to create a pharmacy that will provide high-quality Egyptian pharmaceuticals at competitive prices, not only for the Somali market but for neighboring countries as well.
Ambassador Awari further outlined discussions on facilitating the process for Somali patients to receive treatment in Egyptian hospitals, which would include simplifying visa procedures for both patients and their companions. This initiative is expected to bolster medical tourism between the two countries.
In a related development, a new shipment of Egyptian military aid recently arrived in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, and was received by Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Nur.
This military aid is part of Egypt’s broader efforts to support the Somali army in building its capabilities and ensuring the country’s security and stability.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the arrival of the military assistance, stating that it is aligned with Egypt’s commitment under a recently signed military cooperation protocol with Somalia.
The aid is part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to assist Somalia in its fight against terrorism, safeguard its sovereignty, and maintain the unity and integrity of its territory.
Egypt remains committed to playing a pivotal role in supporting Somalia’s aspirations for security, stability, and development, continuing its longstanding relationship with the East African nation.
