Since its launch in 2018, the “Masam” project led by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has been relentless in its mission to eliminate the scourge of landmines from Yemeni soil.
With remarkable efficacy, this initiative has succeeded in clearing a staggering 435,000 randomly scattered mines to date, marking a significant milestone in safeguarding civilian lives and creating safer environments for communities ravaged by conflict.
KSrelief’s unwavering dedication to addressing the landmine crisis in Yemen is underscored by its multifaceted approach. Beyond the monumental task of mine clearance, the organization has recognized the urgent need to support individuals affected by these lethal devices.
In response, KSrelief has launched the “Prosthetic Limbs Program,” a comprehensive initiative aimed at providing not only prosthetic limb fitting and maintenance but also holistic physical and psychological rehabilitation services.
Since its inception in 2020, the Prosthetic Limbs Program has delivered over 206,000 free services, extending a lifeline to more than 56,000 individuals across various Yemeni governorates.
This program stands as a beacon of hope amidst the devastation wrought by landmines, offering not just physical restoration but also the promise of renewed mobility and dignity for those whose lives have been forever altered by conflict.
As Yemen grapples with one of the world’s most severe landmine crises, KSrelief’s tireless efforts serve as a testament to the power of humanitarian action in the face of adversity.
By clearing over 435,000 mines and providing vital support to those in need, KSrelief continues to make tangible strides towards building a safer and more resilient future for the people of Yemen.
