Saudi Arabia has expressed its approval for the resumption of discussions between representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Jeddah.
The talks, facilitated by both the Kingdom and the United States, and in collaboration with a joint representative from the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), resumed on Thursday.
In a press statement released on Thursday and circulated by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “In this context, the Kingdom urges the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to resume their commitment to the agreements previously reached between them.
This includes the Jeddah Declaration, which emphasizes the importance of protecting civilians in Sudan and was signed on May 11. Additionally, the parties are urged to uphold the short-term ceasefire agreement signed by both sides in Jeddah on May 20.”
The Kingdom highlighted its commitment to fostering unity, emphasizing the necessity of wisdom, and the halting of conflicts to save lives and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
This is all in support of bringing an end to the crisis, helping Sudan emerge from it, and reaching a political agreement that ensures security, stability, and prosperity for Sudan and its people.
This development is significant and is expected to draw considerable attention, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s active role in regional stability and conflict resolution.
The Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister has previously reiterated the Kingdom’s support for Sudan during this challenging period, affirming the continuation of diplomatic efforts to calm the situation and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected.
