Saudi Energy Minister Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz stressed the urgency of eradicating energy poverty faced by some countries, addressing the international community by highlighting its moral significance for over a billion people lacking access to basic energy services.
His remarks came during his speech at the 14th Ministerial Meeting on Clean Energy and the 8th Ministerial Meeting on Innovation, held in Goa, India.
Saudi Arabia has been at the forefront of countries advocating for combating global energy poverty, particularly in 2007 when it brought attention to this critical issue faced by several nations.
In addition, Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) forum and the Mission Innovation (MI) initiative, aiming to address challenges related to global energy, economy, and sustainability.
During the meeting, the energy minister, alongside Indian Minister of Power, New and Renewable Energy, Raj Kumar Singh, chaired a roundtable discussion on clean hydrogen, as well as a panel discussion on emissions reduction from all sources.
It is worth noting that the Kingdom is an active member of various international organizations and forums concerned with climate change, including the Zero Emission Producers Forum, the Global Methane Initiative, the Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Leadership Forum, and the Energy Innovation Mission.
These participations underscore the Kingdom’s proactive role on the international stage in tackling the effects of climate change and contributing to global efforts in emission reduction.
This commitment is evident through Saudi Arabia’s diversification of energy sources and the promotion of clean technologies across all energy sectors, including renewables and hydrocarbons.
