Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Ziad Al-Atiyah, delivered a strong condemnation of Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, deeming them legally indefensible. Al-Atiyah underscored the importance of holding Israel accountable for its violations of international law, particularly its treatment of civilians in Gaza and its continued impunity.
Expressing deep concern over the killing of civilians, Saudi Arabia rejected Israel’s self-defense argument, labeling the deprivation of basic means of survival for Palestinians as unjustifiable. Al-Atiyah accused Israel of dehumanizing Palestinians and committing genocide, urging the international community to take decisive action.
Addressing the court’s jurisdiction, Al-Atiyah dismissed arguments against it and called for the court to issue an opinion on the matter. Saudi Arabia condemned Israel’s ongoing disregard for ceasefire calls, its expansion of illegal settlements, and the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes.
The Kingdom emphasized Israel’s violations of international obligations, including ignoring UN resolutions condemning its conduct and impeding Palestinians from exercising their right to self-defense. Additionally, Israel’s intentions to maintain and expand illegal settlements, exemplified by declaring Jerusalem as its capital in the 2018 Basic Law, were criticized for undermining Palestinian self-determination.
