A Russian missile attack on the Kyiv region overnight resulted in injuries to two people and significant damage to numerous residential and other buildings, according to officials.
Out of the three missiles launched by Russia, Ukraine’s air defense systems successfully destroyed two over the Kyiv region, reported Mykola Oleshchuk, Ukraine’s Air Force Commander.
In a statement on the Telegram messaging app, Oleshchuk did not disclose the fate of the third missile. Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the Kyiv region’s administration, confirmed that debris from the intercepted missiles injured two people, though they did not require hospitalization.
The attack caused damage to six multi-story residential buildings, more than 20 private houses, a gas station, a pharmacy, an administrative building, and three cars.
Kyiv, along with its surrounding region and several other parts of Ukraine, was under air raid alerts for about an hour on Sunday morning, starting at 4:50 a.m. local time (0150 GMT). Reuters witnesses reported hearing multiple blasts in and around Kyiv, which sounded like air defense systems intercepting the air weapons.
