Hundreds of people protested in Paris on Friday against a new law that tightens immigration rules in France, known as the Darmanin Law after French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin.

The protest was organized by migrant advocacy groups, which called for increased pressure on the authorities and more protests across France. Similar “solidarity marches” are scheduled to take place in Rennes, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, Brest, and other cities.

Trade unions have also called for strikes “against racism and fascism.”

Sophie Binet, the general secretary of the General Confederation of Labour, called for a “general civil disobedience” protest on Thursday against the new immigration law, which was passed by the French Parliament earlier this week.

The law allows for the deportation of undocumented migrants, and it has been criticized by human rights groups and migrant advocates.
