Alexander Lavrentiev, the Special Representative of the Russian President to Syria, has emphatically stated that Russia strongly rejects Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, warning that such actions could lead to an escalation of conflict in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters in Astana, Lavrentiev said, “We categorically reject these attacks because they only lead to an escalation of violence, and we will do everything in our power to prevent Syria from being dragged into a regional conflict.”

He added, “Russia has not yet seen any intention from the United States to withdraw its military forces from Syria, and the situation has become more complicated as Americans are suffering significant losses. However, they continue to maintain a presence in several of their bases in northeastern Syria and the Al-Tanf region.”

The Russian representative pointed out that the Astana format for resolving the Syrian situation has become increasingly important in light of the rising tensions in the Middle East, which are now on the brink of a large-scale armed confrontation.

He stated, “I believe that the international community must do everything in its power to prevent such a negative development,” emphasizing the need for the three guarantor states (Russia, Iran, and Turkey) to coordinate their positions in interacting with all parties involved in the Astana talks, primarily with the Syrian parties.

Lavrentiev stressed the importance of continuing to combat terrorist groups like Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and others and working towards improving the economic situation in Syria, ultimately focusing on reconstruction efforts.

The 21st international meeting on Syria under the Astana format kicked off in the Kazakh capital, Astana, today.

“Russia Firmly Opposes Israeli Incursions into Syrian Territory, Warns of Escalation”

In a recent statement, Alexander Lavrentiev, the Special Representative of the Russian President to Syria, expressed Russia’s resolute opposition to Israeli attacks on Syrian soil, highlighting the potential for an escalation of conflict in the volatile Middle East region.

Lavrentiev, speaking to reporters in Astana, stated, “We unequivocally denounce these attacks as they only serve to escalate violence, and we are committed to taking all necessary measures to prevent Syria from being drawn into a wider regional conflict.”

He also noted, “Russia has observed no concrete plans from the United States to withdraw its military presence from Syria. The situation has grown more complex, with American forces sustaining significant losses. Nevertheless, they maintain a presence in various bases across northeastern Syria and the Al-Tanf region.”

The Russian representative emphasized that the Astana format, designed to address the Syrian crisis, has gained increased importance amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, which are perilously close to a large-scale armed confrontation.

He urged the international community to do everything in its power to avert such a negative development. Lavrentiev stressed the need for coordination among the three guarantor states (Russia, Iran, and Turkey) when dealing with all parties involved in the Astana talks, particularly with the Syrian factions.

Lavrentiev also underlined the importance of ongoing efforts to combat terrorist organizations like Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and others, as well as initiatives to improve Syria’s economic situation, with a focus on reconstruction.

The 21st international meeting on Syria, held within the Astana framework, commenced in the Kazakh capital, Astana, today.
