Turkey is open to discussing the withdrawal of its troops from Syria, but specific terms have yet to be agreed upon, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with RT television.
Lavrov mentioned that discussions involve the return of refugees and measures to suppress the terrorist threat, which would eventually make the presence of Turkish forces unnecessary.
He added that the Syrian government insists that a clear decision on the Turkish troop withdrawal process is crucial for normalizing relations with Istanbul.
Lavrov also commented on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that Israel’s goal to eliminate Hamas is unattainable and that both sides need to enter negotiations.
He criticised the use of force by Israel against Hezbollah and Hamas, noting that such a strategy has no chance of success.
Furthermore, Lavrov accused the United States of not fighting terrorism in Syria but instead focusing on extracting oil, gas, and grain from the country.
He alleged that the US is exploiting Syria’s richest resources in areas under its control, bypassing the harsh sanctions applied to the rest of the country.
