Russia launched a large-scale drone attack across 15 Ukrainian regions overnight, damaging energy infrastructure and residential buildings, Ukrainian authorities reported on Thursday.
Ukraine’s air force said it successfully downed 78 out of 105 Russian drones, with 23 more likely impacted by electronic jamming. The attack caused damage to power lines and substations in the Kyiv, Odesa, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions, temporarily disrupting railway services and leaving households without power in some areas, according to Ukraine’s energy ministry.
Odesa governor Oleh Kiper stated that power was restored to over 3,000 people in his region, though about 2,000 remain without electricity. Authorities reported that around 15 drones were downed over Kyiv during a five-hour air alert, with minor property damage in the Poltava, Cherkasy, and Kirovohrad regions.
Russia’s defense ministry claimed its forces targeted energy facilities supplying power to Ukraine’s military operations, according to TASS. While Moscow denies targeting civilians, a Russian bomb struck an apartment block in Kharkiv on Wednesday, injuring at least 10 people.
