Russia has accused the United States of being responsible for a Ukrainian missile attack on Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014.
The attack resulted in at least four deaths, including two children, and left 151 others injured.
According to Russian officials, the U.S. supplied Kyiv with the missiles used in the attack.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that their air defense systems intercepted four ATACMS missiles equipped with cluster warheads, while the fifth missile exploded mid-air.
Direct Involvement Allegations
The Ministry of Defense alleged that American specialists provided the coordinates for the missile strikes using data from U.S. spy satellites, implying that Washington bears direct responsibility for the attack.
“Washington is primarily responsible for the deliberate missile strike on civilians in the city of Sevastopol after supplying Ukraine with these weapons. The Kyiv regime also bears responsibility for executing this strike from its territory,” the ministry stated.
U.S. ATACMS Missiles in Ukrainian Arsenal
The United States began supplying Ukraine with ATACMS missiles, which have a range of up to 300 kilometers, earlier this year.
Impact on Civilians in Crimea
Russian-appointed authorities in Crimea reported that missile fragments fell near a beach in northern Sevastopol in the afternoon, where locals were vacationing. Footage broadcast by Russian state television showed people running for cover and some being carried on beach loungers.
Russia’s Health Minister Mikhail Murashko confirmed that at least 124 people were injured, including 27 children, with five in serious condition.
