The Qatari Foreign Ministry has denied claims of “Doha‘s involvement in transferring weapons to Ukraine as part of an arms deal with Berlin,” asserting that Qatar has “not supplied weapons to any party in the conflict.”
In response to Western allegations about “Qatar’s agreement to transfer howitzers to Ukraine under an arms deal with Berlin,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid Al-Ansari stated, “We have made it clear from day one that we are focused on finding a peaceful solution to this conflict.”
Al-Ansari added, “Doha is actively working towards resolving the situation in Ukraine through various meetings and communications with both sides to move toward a peaceful resolution.
This includes Qatar’s mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine regarding the return of children to their families on both sides, which has been appreciated by both parties.
We remain committed to our mediation efforts and are not involved in arming any party in this conflict.”
The German newspaper Bild had reported, citing its sources, that the German government had approved the sale of €100 million worth of weapons to Qatar, including RCH 155 self-propelled guns (SPGs).
In return, Qatar allegedly promised to transfer half of its 24 PzH 2000 howitzers to Ukraine, where they would be serviced in Germany.
