On Tuesday, an official delegation from the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs arrived at Mitiga International Airport. This delegation, led by the Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Imad Zuhairi, has sparked renewed optimism in the ongoing diplomatic relations between Libya and Palestine.
The Palestinian delegation was received by Rashed Aboghefa, the Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Temporary National Unity Government. This reflects the significant attention being accorded to this visit by the Libyan authorities.
The overarching objective of this visit, as clarified by the Ministry, is to bolster the bilateral cooperation between the two nations. It is seen as a tangible move towards further strengthening the already flourishing diplomatic ties that have been nurtured over recent years.
In the past few months, Libyan-Palestinian relations have shown substantial development. For instance, in a meeting held in Ramallah on February 14th, Mohammad Al Raed, the President of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture, and the Palestinian Minister of Economy Khaled Assaily, agreed to rejuvenate trade exchanges. The meeting also resulted in a consensus to organize an exhibition titled “Made in Palestine” in Libya, showcasing Palestinian products.
Furthermore, the Libyan delegation agreed to establish joint mechanisms to invigorate commercial exchange between the two countries. This will include facilitating the export of Palestinian products to the Libyan market and setting up joint investments. This move is a clear indication of the two nations’ determination to bring about fruitful economic relations.
The above is based on a statement issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Economy, which highlights the mutual intention to strengthen and diversify the economic ties between Libya and Palestine.
