The Netherlands and Denmark have affirmed their commitment to furnishing F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine once specific conditions for the transfer are met, according to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s announcement on Sunday during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s visit.
Rutte clarified that the Netherlands possesses a total of 42 F-16s, but it remains premature to determine if all of them will be contributed.
During a joint press conference with Zelenskiy at a military air base in Eindhoven, Rutte stated, “Today we can announce that the Netherlands and Denmark commit to the transfer of F-16 aircraft to Ukraine and the Ukrainian Air Force,” underscoring the collaboration with the U.S. and other allies.
Zelenskiy, describing the accord as a “breakthrough agreement,” mentioned that the precise number of aircraft involved will be deliberated “at a later date.”
This commitment signifies a substantial promise of F-16 fighter jets to fortify Ukraine’s armed forces. It follows the recent endorsement by the United States for potential F-16 delivery by the Netherlands and Denmark.
