Morocco is advancing its energy strategy with plans to produce 9,614 megawatts of electricity by 2027, with an investment of MAD 87.9 billion (Approx. $9 billion), according to Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali.
The plan, presented at a House of Representatives meeting, aims to diversify energy sources, including 7,516 megawatts from renewable energy, with 4,098 MW from solar and 2,668 MW from wind power, and additional capacity from pumped storage and hydraulic energy.
Morocco is also enhancing its electricity transmission infrastructure and fostering private sector involvement. Additionally, the country is working on expanding its electrical interconnections with Spain and Portugal, including a new 700 MW line with Spain to increase capacity and an updated feasibility study for a 1,000 MW link with Portugal.
In the petroleum sector, Morocco is boosting storage capacity and creating strategic reserves to mitigate rising global prices, while also forming committees to improve energy infrastructure and reform the oil sector to enhance governance and competitiveness.
