Libya’s UN representative, Taher El-Sonni, warned that “armed conflict is looming” during his address to the United Nations Security Council.

He emphasised that unilateral actions by any party pose a significant threat to the country’s stability.

El-Sonni pointed out that the crisis in Libya is fundamentally political rather than legal, and reiterated that the only solution lies in supporting the Libyan people’s desire for elections.

He criticised the Security Council for issuing repeated condemnations without offering practical solutions, stating that the Council has failed to hold obstructors accountable or prevent foreign interference.

El-Sonni’s warning underscores the urgent need for a political resolution to avoid further escalation in Libya.
