Libyan House of Representatives Speaker, Counselor Aguila Saleh, has announced the opening of candidacy applications for the position of Prime Minister in the new Libyan government.
The official spokesperson for the House, Abdullah Blaiheg, released a statement to the press, including Sputnik News, detailing the application process set to begin on July 28 and end on August 11, 2024, at the House’s office in Benghazi.
Blaiheg reiterated that this move follows the constitutional declaration and the thirteenth constitutional amendment, along with the election laws passed by the House of Representatives.
It also aligns with agreements from the 6+6 committee outcomes.
He highlighted that this decision is based on the agreement between the leaders of the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, and the Presidential Council, made at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on March 10, 2024.
The Cairo meeting in July, attended by members from both the House and the High Council of State, resolved to form a new unified government that will prepare for upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
The final statement from the meeting called for the formation of a political roadmap to end the crisis and facilitate elections, urging the House of Representatives to start accepting candidacies and nominations.
The announcement by the House of Representatives marks a significant step toward achieving political stability in Libya.
The aim is to form a competent government capable of leading the country into a new phase of development and stability.
Given Libya’s prolonged period of political divisions and conflicts, the formation of a new, legitimate government with national consensus has become an urgent priority.
This announcement emphasizes the House’s commitment to a transparent and fair process in selecting a new Prime Minister who can meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.
