In a significant diplomatic engagement, Chinese Premier Li Qiang welcomed Libyan Prime Minister Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba and his delegation at the presidential headquarters in Beijing.
The office of the Libyan Prime Minister reported that the two leaders held extensive discussions on several mutual interests.
Key topics included the reopening of the Chinese embassy in Tripoli, China’s efforts towards this goal, the return of Chinese companies to complete their contracted projects, the exchange of prisoners between the two nations, and the implementation of targeted investment projects in Libya.
Premier Li Qiang emphasized China’s commitment to reopening its embassy in Tripoli, citing the stability brought about by the efforts of Libya’s Government of National Unity. He noted that numerous Asian embassies have resumed operations in the Libyan capital.
Li also expressed China’s and its companies’ keen interest in participating in Libya’s ongoing reconstruction efforts.
He showed a willingness to cooperate with Prime Minister Dbaiba on the exchange of prisoners, ensuring that Libyan prisoners could complete their sentences in Libya, and Chinese prisoners could serve their sentences in China.
Moreover, Premier Li reiterated China’s support for Libya’s stability and development, highlighting the importance of international backing to sustain these efforts by ending transitional phases and conducting elections.
Prime Minister Dbaiba, on his part, stressed the importance of mutual cooperation between the two countries.
He underscored the need for continued dialogue and addressing challenges faced by China, both publicly and privately, to aid Libya’s reconstruction.
The meeting also covered Libya’s preparations for hosting the Fourth Forum on Arab-Chinese Cities, scheduled to take place in Tripoli at the end of October.
Both leaders highlighted the forum’s significance as a positive signal for the resumption of comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
