Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, the Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity, has invited Chadian President Mohamed Idriss Deby to participate in an international conference focusing on combating irregular migration and border security.

The event is scheduled to be held in mid-July in Tripoli, the capital of Libya.

This invitation was extended during a meeting at the presidential palace in N’Djamena, where Prime Minister Dbeibah congratulated Chad on the successful completion of its fifth presidential election held on May 6, which confirmed Deby as the President of Chad.

According to a statement published on the Libyan government’s Facebook page, Dbeibah highlighted the election’s contribution to the stability of Chad and the wider African region.

President Deby, on his part, emphasized the deep-rooted relations between Chad and Libya, noting the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation to strengthen and develop these ties further.

The meeting also covered discussions on the security situations in regional countries, various security challenges, and the joint efforts needed to combat terrorism and irregular migration.

Mohamed Al-Menfi, head of the Libyan Presidential Council, and Stephanie Khoury, Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), agreed on the necessity of reactivating the security track within the framework of the Libyan dialogue through the Joint Military Committee (5+5).

Both parties looked for ways to make progress towards the preliminary phase of elections and advance the political process amidst the current stalemate.

The talks emphasized the importance of reviving the security path via the (5+5) Committee framework and progressing the human rights track that emerged from the outcomes of the Berlin Conference under the signed protocol.

Al-Menfi expressed his appreciation for the role of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the ongoing efforts of the UN mission in Libya in collaboration with the Presidential Council.

This move marks a significant step in advancing Libya’s political dialogue and stabilizing the region.
