A joint agreement and memorandum were signed in Algeria between the Algerian History and Memory Committee, represented by its President, Lahcen Zagidi, and the French Truth and Memory Committee, represented by its President, Benjamin Stora. This signing was reported by Algerian International Radio.
According to the source, the memorandum signing took place on the eve of the conclusion of the fifth meeting of the Algerian-French Joint History and Memory Committee.
The session, which began last Monday in Algiers, discussed various issues, including the recognition of massacres that occurred during the colonial invasion of Algeria, the demand for the return of swords, treaties, and belongings of Emir Abdelkader, as well as the retrieval of original archival documents related to the period of popular revolutions.
Earlier this month, Algerian Energy Minister, Mohamed Arkab, discussed with Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Zohra Chebbi, ways to enhance and develop bilateral relations, especially in the fields of fuel production and marketing, electricity production and transmission, as well as in new and renewable energies and the transition towards clean energy.
This took place on the sidelines of the third edition of the international forum “Towards the South: The European Strategy for a New Geopolitical and Economic Era in the Mediterranean Region” on Friday in Sorrento, Italy.
According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Energy, the two sides discussed the progress and development of current projects and contracts in the fields of gas and electricity and explored future cooperation opportunities by studying possibilities in the mining sector, especially the exploitation and processing of phosphate products, and the exchange of expertise and training.
The ministers also touched on the ongoing preparations for the Algerian-Tunisian bilateral energy and mining committee, which is set to be held in the Tunisian capital later this year.
