The Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Hweij, encouraged German companies to resume their work on contracted projects in Libya.
He also invited them to participate in the country’s development and reconstruction plan, including the implementation of renewable energy and water wealth investment projects.
This initiative was discussed during a meeting between Al-Hweij and the Charge d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Libya, Stefan Krausse, along with the Minister’s advisor, Shathar Essaid, the Director of Foreign Trade Affairs, Essam Al-Malhoof, and the Head of the International Cooperation Department, Faraj Al-Bay.
The Ministry of Economy stated that the meeting revolved around economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and the mechanism for German companies to resume operations in Libya.
Krausse expressed the desire of German economic institutions to strengthen their commercial and investment cooperation with Libya.
He emphasized the readiness of German companies to resume work in the country, complete their contracted projects, and engage in local private-sector partnerships for investment projects.
Al-Hweij also outlined the ministry’s strategy for economic diversification and the involvement of non-oil sectors to boost the domestic economy.
He highlighted the ministry’s aim to establish a genuine economic partnership with trading partners in the European Union, including Germany.
The minister called on the Department of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation to coordinate with the commercial section of the German Embassy in organizing the Libyan-German Economic Forum in 2024, to be held in the capital, Tripoli.
The forum will facilitate bilateral meetings between investors from both countries, with the participation of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture and the Business Owners Council.
This initiative aims to enhance economic ties and foster investment opportunities between Libya and Germany.
