On Thursday, Libyan Presidential Council Head Mohamed al-Menfi, along with his delegation, held official talks in Beijing, China.
The Chinese side was led by Li Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China, along with other senior Communist Party leaders and ministers.
According to the media office of the Libyan Presidential Council, the discussions built on previous talks held with Chinese President Xi Jinping the day before.
The primary focus was on establishing a strategic partnership between Libya and China and resuming political dialogue.
The meeting also addressed various issues, including the reopening of the Chinese Embassy in Tripoli and the resumption of operations by Chinese companies in Libya once conditions are favorable. Other mutual interests and concerns were also discussed.
During the previous day’s summit with President Xi Jinping, held on the sidelines of the China-Africa summit, Al-Menfi reviewed the trajectory of bilateral relations and explored ways to enhance and develop them.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of building a strategic partnership that serves the interests of both nations.
The discussions highlighted the need to reactivate the Libyan-Chinese Joint Committee and agreed on a framework for the return of Chinese companies to Libya through this committee.
Xi reaffirmed China’s readiness to offer full support and cooperation to Libya across various sectors in the coming period. He underscored China’s commitment to standing firmly with the Libyan people and the Presidential Council in safeguarding Libya’s sovereignty and unity.
the Chinese president also called for an end to negative interventions in Libyan affairs and praised Al-Mnifi’s efforts to foster national unity and create conducive conditions for elections.
He expressed China’s eagerness to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with Libya to enhance cooperation in all vital areas.
