The Lebanese Army announced on Wednesday that it had successfully prevented over 2,000 Syrians from entering Lebanon illegally.
According to a statement on the army’s official Facebook page, about 2,200 Syrians were stopped from crossing the Lebanese-Syrian border through unauthorized means.
This development highlights the Lebanese Army’s recent efforts to curb illegal border crossings.
Lebanon is home to around 1.5 million Syrians, many of whom face difficult living conditions, exacerbated by the ongoing economic crisis in the country.
Lebanon has repeatedly called for a resolution to the refugee situation, advocating for the voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, citing the country’s inability to continue shouldering the burden.
However, international organizations and the United Nations have opposed the repatriation of Syrian refugees from Lebanon due to concerns over potential security risks they might face upon their return.
