The Lebanese caretaker government’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdallah Bouhabib, announced on Tuesday the adoption of a two-year austerity and rationalization plan aimed at mitigating the impacts of the ongoing economic crisis.
The plan includes measures such as reducing salaries, cutting travel expenses for ambassadors and local employees, reducing rents, maintenance, and celebrations. Bouhabib assured that the ministry’s share in the budget does not exceed 77 million dollars.
He further stated that the ministry has terminated the employment of 165 local workers, decreased the salaries of current employees at various rates, and reduced office rents and housing for mission heads by about 2.6 million dollars.
