The Lebanese Army urged citizens on Sunday to avoid actions that could threaten civil peace and to maintain national unity, following the announcement by Hezbollah of the death of its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, in an Israeli airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

In an official statement, the army leadership emphasized the importance of preserving national unity during this critical and sensitive period in the nation’s history.

They reassured the public that the military would continue to implement necessary security measures to maintain civil peace.

The statement highlighted that Israel aims to execute its disruptive plans and sow division among the Lebanese people.

In the wake of the violence, the army has increased its presence throughout Beirut, where thousands have fled due to heavy Israeli bombardments targeting Hezbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon, eastern regions, and the southern suburbs of the capital.

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka also addressed the situation, calling for Lebanon to focus on its shared interests during this crucial moment. She stressed the need for a government capable of swiftly and effectively addressing urgent security and humanitarian needs.

Meanwhile, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati encouraged the Lebanese people to respond with a sense of national responsibility following an emergency government meeting, which he convened after returning from the United Nations in New York.

He underscored the importance of preserving national unity, stating that Israel’s goal is to undermine this solidarity, which has historically been the strongest weapon against its malicious schemes.
