Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that French President Emmanuel Macron’s statements, such as sending troops from his country to Ukraine, are merely aimed at pleasing Washington and attempting to undermine Germany’s position in the European Union.

Lavrov pointed out in an interview with the “TASS” news agency that Macron also makes these statements to provoke allies in NATO, and it has nothing to do with what is called “strategic sovereignty.”

He emphasized that all the talks Macron has had in recent years (which he regularly holds through the media) about establishing a kind of strategic sovereignty – all of this has turned out to be nothing, with apologies for using this common expression, “and today no one is thinking about this at all.”

He stressed that politicians and the younger generation in the Baltic countries raise such ideas. Mature policy in Poland and cautiousness in Scholz

He continued on this side: “In Poland, there are mature politicians, but they are also ready to play such provocative games. And in Germany, Chancellor Olaf Scholz still shows at least some caution. But France’s provocation on the issue of deploying NATO forces in Ukraine aims, among other things, to undermine its (Berlin’s) position in the European Union in the context of Franco-German competition.”

They will not be like de Gaulle, Chirac, and Schroeder

The Russian Foreign Minister noted that Europe as a whole has fallen under the control of the United States, and according to his assessment, comparing the generation of politicians in the previous era and the level of their legend compared to the current generation, “teenagers” and “politicians in biological maturity” in recent times do not reach the level of great figures like Charles de Gaulle, Jacques Chirac, François Mitterrand, Helmut Kohl, and Gerhard Schröder.

He added: “These are the people who really think about the interests of their countries, without subjecting them to the sole Western collective demand that we see everywhere now… Europe has completely fallen under the control of the states and has no independence.”

Lavrov expressed his sadness about many issues surrounding NATO, describing it as a controversial organization, and what comes from it is not in the national interest of their peoples and countries, but for political plans, aspirations, and selfishness.. “It is sad.”
