Amman, Jordan: According to a military source from the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army, intense armed clashes have been ongoing since the early hours of Monday morning between the Jordanian border guard forces and armed groups at the northern border of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, particularly within the jurisdiction of the Eastern Military Region.
These clashes have so far resulted in thwarting significant attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs and automatic and rocket weapons.
The source confirmed that efforts are currently underway to repel the armed groups back into Syrian territory.
Several injuries among the Jordanian border guard forces have been reported, with their health condition ranging from light to moderate.
The source further explained that the past few days have seen an increase in such operations, transforming from attempts at infiltration and smuggling to armed confrontations, aimed at forcefully crossing the borders and targeting the border guard forces.
The source also noted that these clashes are a continuation of the actions of these armed groups over the past few days, which have resulted in the death of several smugglers, the capture of one, the martyrdom of a member of the armed forces, and the injury of another.
The source emphasized that the armed forces are closely monitoring the movements of these groups and their attempts to destabilize national security, and will take all necessary measures to deter and pursue them wherever they may be.
