On Thursday, King Abdullah of Jordan met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the escalating humanitarian crisis.
The King commended Türkiye for its steadfast approach and contributions towards ending the conflict.
Emphasizing the need for Jordan and Türkiye to work closely together, King Abdullah highlighted the significance of leveraging the work of the ministerial committee formed by the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit. This committee is focused on intensifying global efforts to halt the Gaza war.
King Abdullah underscored the urgency of establishing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, safeguarding civilians, and ensuring consistent delivery of humanitarian and medical assistance.
He expressed concern over the increasing tensions in the West Bank, citing the aggressive actions of extremist settlers against Palestinians and the infringements on religious sites in Jerusalem.
He warned that these issues must be addressed promptly to prevent further instability in the West Bank and the region.
Reaffirming Jordan’s firm opposition to the forced removal of Palestinians from Gaza and the West Bank, the King stressed the need for international intervention to facilitate the return of Gazans to their homes.
He also reiterated Jordan’s stance against separating Gaza and the West Bank, considering them integral to the Palestinian state.
King Abdullah called for a unified regional approach to forge a viable political path towards a two-state solution. This solution would establish a sovereign Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting was also attended by Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, the Director of His Majesty’s Office Jafar Hassan, and the Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Erdem Ozan.
