The Jordanian military announced on Wednesday that it successfully intercepted a drug smuggling operation and attempted infiltration from Syria.
A military source from the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces reported that the Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, foiled the smuggling attempt during an operation at dawn.
According to the official statement, intensive search and inspection operations were conducted in the area, leading to the discovery of significant quantities of narcotics.
The seized drugs have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
The military emphasized its commitment to utilizing all available resources to prevent smuggling and infiltration attempts, ensuring the security and stability of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
Jordan has been facing increasing challenges along its northern border due to the ongoing conflict in Syria.
The porous border has become a key route for drug traffickers and smugglers, taking advantage of the instability in Syria to transport illicit goods, particularly narcotics.
The Jordanian Armed Forces have ramped up efforts to prevent such activities, implementing strict security measures and enhancing coordination with various security agencies.
This latest attempt underscores the broader issue of regional drug trafficking, with Jordan playing a critical role in combating these illegal operations to safeguard its national security.
