Italy affirmed its full support for the Libyan Presidential Council’s efforts in establishing peace and stability across the country.

President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed Al Menfi held talks with Gianluca Alberini, the new Italian Ambassador to Libya.

During the meeting, Alberini emphasized the council’s effective role in achieving stability and peace across Libya, fostering economic growth, unifying military institutions, and formulating financial arrangements. He also confirmed Italy’s support for the Presidential Council’s initiatives.

On his part, Al Menfi hailed the bilateral relations between the two countries in various sectors. He also highlighted that the Presidential Council successfully maintained a ceasefire and held steadfastly to Libyan territorial integrity.

In the same vein, Al Menfi acknowledged Libya’s rich history and extended civilization across different eras, adding that the council is working towards conducting free and fair elections.

Earlier this week, Italy granted two patrol boats to the Libyan Coast Guard as part of the effort to combat illegal immigration.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi stated that they will request more productive cooperation from the Libyan National Army Commander, Khalifa Haftar, to halt illegal immigration from eastern Libya.
