In a recent development, Israeli Air Force fighter jets conducted targeted strikes in the Damascus area on Wednesday, as reported by the Syrian Ministry of Defense. The pro-Assad regime Sham FM radio station stated that Syrian air defenses engaged with “hostile targets” near Sayyidah Zaynab, approximately six miles south of Damascus.

While there is no immediate information on casualties or damage, the alleged Israeli attack follows a new round of airstrikes carried out by the US military in Iraq. The US strikes focused on two facilities utilized by Kata’ib Hezbollah, a designated terrorist organization with close ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

The Pentagon disclosed that the US military targeted an operations center and command and control node south of Baghdad, emphasizing that these actions were a direct response to recent attacks on American and Coalition forces by Iran and its backed groups.

Tensions in the region have escalated since Hamas invaded southwestern Israel on Oct. 7. In response, the US has intensified its efforts, conducting two series of strikes in Iraq against Kata’ib Hezbollah targets. These strikes mark the first military actions by the US within Iraq since Oct. 7.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian arrived in Lebanon on Wednesday for discussions with leaders of Iran’s terror proxies.

At a press conference at Beirut’s international airport, Amir-Abdollahian stated, “Without a doubt, the past six weeks of heroic resistance have proven that time is not on the side of the artificial Israeli entity.”

He emphasized the commitment of regional resistance leaders to continue their struggle until the full rights of the Palestinian people are realized and a resolution is reached in the region.
