The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Saturday that they had eliminated a person they described as a senior internal security leader of Hamas in an airstrike in southern Gaza Strip last Wednesday.
A joint statement from the Israeli military and the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) identified the individual as Akram Abdul Rahman Hussein Salameh, stating he held several key positions within Hamas, including the Deputy Head of the Khan Younis region. Salameh was reportedly involved in planning attacks within Israel.
The operation was based on intelligence from the IDF and Shin Bet, executed by Israeli Air Force aircraft.
In related developments, the Palestinian News Agency reported on Saturday that several Palestinians were killed and others injured in rocket and artillery bombardment by Israeli forces targeting civilian homes in various areas of the Gaza Strip.
The bombardment targeted residential homes in the Zeitoun area southeast of Gaza City, Al-Sabra in the center, and the Tal Al-Hawa and Sheikh Ajlin neighborhoods in the southwest of the city, resulting in three deaths and about 10 injuries. The injured were transported to Al-Mamadani Hospital in the city.
Israeli artillery also shelled homes in the Maghazi, Al-Zahra, and the northern outskirts of the Al-Nuseirat camp in the central part of the Strip, causing injuries among civilians who were then taken to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza.
Artillery fire affected civilian properties in Beit Hanoun in the north of the Strip. Forces launched several shells towards the southwestern neighborhoods of Khan Younis, south of the Strip, coinciding with airstrikes by Israeli warplanes on central and western parts of the city.
The Gaza Health Ministry reported yesterday that the death toll from the Israeli offensive on the Strip since October 7th had risen to 33,091, with 75,750 injured.
