The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced last Sunday evening that an Israeli citizen was arrested in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt the previous Saturday, following altercations with a local resident.
According to reports, the conflict began when the Israeli displayed a flag associated with the “Chabad” religious Jewish extremist right-wing movement near his residence in the Sinai Peninsula, leading to confrontations with local residents.
The Israeli suspect has been put on trial and is likely to be deported from the country.
The Foreign Ministry stated that “the matter is being addressed by the Israeli Consul in Egypt, who is in touch with the detainee’s family.”
According to the Israeli i24News channel, Egypt, especially Sinai, is a popular destination for Israelis who travel there in large numbers every year.
