The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that Israel and the Palestinian side, represented by Hamas, have reached an agreement to extend the existing ceasefire for an additional day. Majed Al-Ansari, the official spokesperson of the Ministry, emphasized in a statement the ongoing efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The extension maintains the same conditions as the initial agreement, which include a cessation of hostilities and the entry of humanitarian aid. This extension is part of the joint mediation efforts by the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the United States.
Minutes before the expiry of the six-day temporary ceasefire, the Israeli Defense Forces announced the continuation of the truce, noting that mediators are working to extend it under the agreed framework. The Israeli military stated that the operational ceasefire would continue amidst efforts by intermediaries to sustain the process of releasing hostages as per previously agreed conditions between both parties.
Hamas also confirmed reaching an agreement with Israel to extend the ceasefire for a seventh day, on Thursday. The statement by Hamas, however, did not provide further details.
