Foreign ministers from France, Germany, and Poland will meet in Paris on Monday to discuss ways to increase support for Ukraine in its war against Russia and the situation in the Middle East.
The meeting, which will be held at the Château de La Celle-Saint-Cloud, will be the first in a new format known as the “Weimar Triangle Plus” that includes Poland.
French Foreign Minister Stéphane Le Foll said the meeting was “extremely important” given the “unpredictable and unstable” international context.
“We need to reinvent a form of multiplier effect,” he added.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the time was right for the meeting, given the recent election victory in Poland of a pro-European coalition led by former European Council President Donald Tusk.
The meeting is expected to focus on the following issues:
• Ukraine: The ministers will discuss ways to increase military and financial support for Ukraine. They will also discuss the possibility of imposing new sanctions on Russia.
• Middle East: The ministers will discuss the situation in the Middle East, including the ongoing conflict in Israel and the Gaza Strip. They will also discuss the threat of terrorism.
The meeting is expected to produce a joint statement outlining the three countries’ positions on these issues.
