The Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for launching a drone strike targeting a critical site in Eilat, Israel, late Wednesday.
According to their statement, this operation was part of their ongoing resistance against Israeli occupation and was carried out in solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
The group stated that the drone strike was a direct response to the “massacres” committed by Israel against civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, during the ongoing conflict.
They further emphasized that their operations would continue to escalate, targeting enemy strongholds.
The Israeli military confirmed that a drone launched from Iraq exploded over the Red Sea city of Eilat on Wednesday evening. Israeli media, including Yedioth Ahronoth, reported that the explosion caused injuries to two Israelis and resulted in material damage in the port area.
Videos circulated on social media showed smoke rising from the port and visible damage to nearby facilities.
This strike represents the latest in a series of escalating attacks, as tensions in the region continue to rise amidst the broader conflict between Israel and militant groups.
The attack on Eilat highlights the growing reach of militant groups in Iraq and their willingness to engage directly in the Israeli conflict, underscoring the volatile nature of the broader Middle East region. With both sides committed to retaliation, the potential for further escalations seems increasingly likely.
