Fadel Al-Gharawi, the head of the Iraqi Center for Human Rights Strategic Studies, confirmed today, Monday, that Iraq ranked 98th globally and 5th among Arab countries in the World Happiness Index.

The news agency “Shafaq News” quoted Al-Gharawi as saying, “The World Happiness Index ranks countries based on diverse indicators such as per capita GDP, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity of the population, and perceptions of corruption levels.”

He added that “according to the World Happiness Report for 2024, Finland topped the list with a happiness score of 7.95, followed by Denmark and Iceland, while the bottom rankings for lowest happiness levels were occupied by countries like Lesotho, Kuwait, Turkmenistan, and Libya.”

Al-Gharawi noted that Iraq holds the 5th position among Arab countries with a happiness score of 7.72, with the UAE leading at 8.87 points, followed by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Algeria.

He urged the government to establish a National Happiness Authority under the Prime Minister’s office, responsible for measuring indicators of government success in citizen happiness by ensuring decent living standards, services, and human rights
