In a significant step towards strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in Iraq, the Iraqi Health Minister, Saleh Mahdi Al-Hassnawi, met with the French Ambassador to Baghdad, Eric Chevallier, and his accompanying delegation. During this crucial meeting, they explored ways to enhance cooperation in rehabilitating the infrastructure of the Sinjar District Hospital in Ninewa Province and developing the research center in Ninewa.

The meeting, held on Thursday and reported by the Iraqi News Agency “NINA”, focused on joint cooperation opportunities with French research centers and pharmaceutical companies. This collaboration is expected to span various domains including pharmaceutical, scientific, and health sectors, and aims at transferring French technology and expertise to the Sinjar Hospital and the Nasiriyah Heart Hospital in Dhi Qar.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize Iraq’s health sector, which has faced numerous challenges due to years of conflict and underfunding. The collaboration with France is seen as a pivotal move to enhance the quality of healthcare services in Iraq, leveraging French expertise in medical technology and research.

The rehabilitation of the Sinjar District Hospital is especially significant considering the region’s history and the need for robust healthcare facilities in areas recovering from conflict. This project not only aims to provide better healthcare services but also stands as a symbol of resilience and recovery for the community.

Furthermore, the development of the research center in Ninewa aligns with Iraq’s vision to foster a knowledge-based economy and enhance its scientific capabilities. Collaboration with esteemed French research institutions and pharmaceutical companies is expected to bring in advanced technologies and methodologies, greatly benefiting Iraq’s medical and scientific communities.

The Iraqi Health Minister highly appreciated the support of the French side to the Ministry of Health and the cooperation in bolstering healthcare institutions in Iraq. This meeting underscores a mutual commitment to healthcare development, marking a significant step in Iraq-France relations, particularly in the health sector.

The ongoing collaboration between Iraq and France is poised to make a substantial impact on the Iraqi health system, offering improved medical services and research capabilities. This partnership serves as a beacon of international cooperation in healthcare, demonstrating the power of collaborative efforts in addressing global health challenges.
