The Iraqi Ministry of Environment announced on Sunday that areas in northern Ninawa are free from radiation pollution, affirming the provision of all necessary equipment for work in accordance with the laws and regulations set by the Radiation Protection Center.
In a statement today quoted by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry stated that “a technical team from the Radiation Protection Division in the Ninawa Environment Directorate conducted field surveys in Bartella District and Mosul Dam as part of the efforts exerted by the Radiation Protection Center and its branches in the provinces to protect humans and the environment from the risks of radiation pollution.”
It further mentioned that “the technical teams affiliated with the directorate collected samples of water and soil for laboratory testing purposes to ensure their radiation-free status, and these measures are part of the periodic monitoring,” confirming “the provision of all necessary equipment for work in accordance with the laws and regulations set by the Radiation Protection Center.”
The directorate has outlined action plans related to radiation survey operations, soil and water sampling, pollution treatment, and radiation clearance through field and laboratory tests.
Field readings from radiation survey devices and laboratory test results of environmental samples collected from the sites have shown no indications of radiation contamination.
