Iraq has commenced implementing a plan to install “the largest barrier of barbed wire with Iran,” days after the Iraqi Interior Minister, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, announced the full security of the borders with Syria.
According to an Iraqi security source, yesterday (Sunday), “the implementation of the largest barrier of barbed wire within valleys and slopes in depth along the Iraqi-Iranian border has begun.” The source stated that “based on high orders, border engineering and supporting formations have started implementing the largest barrier of barbed wire stretching from eastern Diyala, within axes of Mandali and Qazaniya and the rest of the areas extending to the provinces of Wasit and Sulaymaniyah.”
Furthermore, it was added that “the wire barrier (the first of its kind after 2003) will be reinforced with advanced thermal cameras and monitoring towers at intervals to enhance gripping force to prevent any infiltration or smuggling incidents.”
Meanwhile, the military spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces announced the launch of a new phase of the “Promise of Righteousness” operation to chase ISIS cells, aiming to besiege the remaining “terrorist organization” in its “most dangerous dens” between the provinces of Anbar and Diyala. The Joint Operations Command announced yesterday the killing of 10 ISIS members during the ongoing military operations of the “Promise of Righteousness” in the two provinces.
